No holiday in Egypt is complete without seeing the magnificent sights of Cairo. Visit some of the great wonders of the world: the Pyramids at Giza and the Sphinx. Marvel at the amazing feat of engineering carried out by a civilization over 3000 years ago. Then proceed to the Egyptian Museum, housing many of the world’s most fabulous treasures and ancient artifacts. Now exit the museum and stroll among the bustling bazaars of Khan Al Khalili and learn about the locals’ life.
One of the most mysterious Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (and the only one still standing), the Pyramids of Giza—the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Khafre, and Pyramid of Menkaure—still live up to more than 4,000 years of hype. Seeing these fourth-dynasty pyramids and their guardian, the Great Sphinx, rising from the Giza Plateau is a must on any trip to Cairo (and the reason many travelers find themselves in Egypt).
A centerpiece of Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum (Museum of Egyptian Antiquities) has been a mecca for Egyptologists since opening, housing among the world’s most impressive ancient relics. While some of its collections are being relocated to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, the Egyptian Museum remains a must-see for anyone interested in ancient Egypt, with over 250,000 pieces on display.
Dating back to the 1300s, the Khan el-Khalili bazaar is one of Cairo’s signature shopping destinations. It offers an intoxicating network of streets with merchants selling everything you can think of, from spices and gold, to toy camels and shisha. It also offers quintessential pyramids, scarabs, and belly-dancer outfits.
After browsing or shopping ’til you drop, your guide will escort you back to your hotel or cruise ship.
