A well-known character in Egyptian religion and mythology is Abydos. In ancient Egypt, this location was considered to be among the holiest. Abydos and the Osiris myth, which dealt with life, death, and rebirth, had a complex relationship. Because it was thought that Osiris, who was killed by his brother Set, was buried in Abydos, the location became important as a place of pilgrimage and resting.
Dendera is around sixty kilometers away.

While Abydos is situated in Upper Egypt, around 11 kilometers from the Nile, it is situated north of Luxor.
